The Knesset celebrated its birthday and Bibi was having a blast in America so not much happened here, but a few interesting points anyways
- Unfortunately for the Labor party, no candidate has emerged for the upcoming primary. In a Knesset Channel poll Other/none tied with MK Shelly Yachimovitch for the lead. This comes after other/none’s numerous second place finishes to Bibi Netanyahu in “who do you want to be Prime Minister” polls. The problem is that both Yachimovitch and none only received 16% and it is likely that Yachimovitch will not be running for the head of the party as she is running to be the head of the Histadrut instead. Furthermore, 42% of Zionist Union voters want MK Tzipi Livni to be in the party (31% say otherwise). However, Livni may take a job in the UN.
- Tzachi HaNegbi was appointed as a temporary replacement for the Minister of Communications (including media). The current minister may have been trying to make deals with Yediot Aharonot to receive favorable coverage. Obviously, it took a court order for him to appoint a temporary replacement.
- Moshe Feiglin will soon start pushing his new party up the electoral hill. Expect them to pull votes from both Likud and HaBayit HaYehudi (mostly the latter). If Amona and Ofra remain fresh in the minds of voters he could cross the election threshold. Feiglin is as close to libertarian as you can get in Israel.
Totally precise and not arbitrary election date: February 6, 2018 (HaBayit HaYehudi will be the ones to collapse the coalition and will do so in the name of the settlements)
